About Burt & Gurt

Burt & Gurt was founded by Mark and Jaycee in 2012, just two years into their relationship, and officially registered in 2014. Built on a shared passion for design, craftsmanship and meaningful jewellery, the brand brings together Jaycee’s background in fashion and styling with Mark’s lifelong dedication to fine jewellery making.

The couple married in 2015 on the beautiful island of Boracay in the Philippines, and their story continues to shape the heart of the brand — creating pieces that celebrate love, milestones and personal stories.

Mark – Master Jeweller

Mark is the craftsman behind every piece you see on the Burt & Gurt website. Creative from a young age, he began making 3D models from cereal boxes at just six years old and later turned a simple sheet of silver into rings admired by many. Determined to pursue jewellery making, he contacted over 30 workshops in search of an apprenticeship — only two replied, one of them being David Marshall, one of Britain’s premier jewellery designers.

After years of training with some of the world’s finest craftsmen, Mark has spent over a decade refining his skills and working with the kind of high-end jewellery found in leading luxury stores today. His hands-on approach, attention to detail and passion for creating unique, meaningful pieces have earned him a reputation as a true artisan — some even call him the “Jamie Oliver of the jewellery world.”

Jaycee – Designer & Online Stylist

Jaycee brings the design vision and styling expertise to Burt & Gurt. She studied Fashion and Design in college and in 2002 won Fashion Designer of the Year for Dylon and Barnardo’s with a creative transformation of men’s shirts into a dip-dyed green dress. This led to an internship with a London fashion house and later roles within magazine fashion departments, where she developed a strong eye for trends and styling.

Her experience continued with an online fashion retailer as part of the “My Stylist” team, advising clients over the phone on what to wear. This unique skill — helping people choose pieces without seeing them in person — naturally translated into jewellery. Today, Jaycee works closely with customers, especially those searching for the perfect engagement ring, using thoughtful questions and insight to guide them toward a piece that feels truly personal.
